Girl Online on Tour – Zoe Sugg

Penny’s bags are packed . . . When Noah invites Penny on his European music tour, she can’t wait to spend time with her rock-god-tastic boyfriend. But, between Noah’s jam-packed schedule, less-than-welcoming bandmates and threatening messages from jealous fans, Penny wonders whether she’s really cut out for life on tour. She can’t help but miss her family, her best friend Elliot . . . and her blog, Girl Online. Can Penny learn to balance life and love on the road, or will she lose everything in pursuit of the perfect summer?
A couple of years ago I read Sugg’s first novel Girl Online as suggested by a friend. I found it interesting enough though it took me a while to get in to it. I spotted the follow up whilst on a trip to my local library and thought I’d give it a whirl, as I remembered how much my old students loved the series.
Girl Online On Tour is a very easy, if unengaging read. Following on from the first book it struggles with dull writing and an unbelievable story. Where Penny in the first book struggled with the idea of going on holiday with her family, or going out with friends, we were meant to believe she would be comfortable travelling around Europe on her own with her rock star American boyfriend and his tour – all at 16.
Probably great for a much younger reader, I won’t be reading the third.
3 stars.
